Affiliate Disclosure
How this site makes money, and what that does and does not change about what you read here.
The disclosure
CompatGrid contains affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission from the retailer. You pay exactly the same price either way — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your wallet.
CompatGrid is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Which programs we are in
- Amazon Associates (Amazon.com and its international equivalents).
- TODO(owner): list every other affiliate network or direct merchant program you join, by name, as you join it. An unlisted program is an undisclosed material connection, which is the thing this page exists to prevent.
Where you will see it
We disclose in three places, because one is not enough:
- At the top of every page that has affiliate links, above the first one, before you have read anything we might be paid for.
- Next to individual links and product boxes, marked as a paid link.
- In the footer of every page, and on this page.
The FTC's standard is that a disclosure must be "difficult to miss" and "easily understandable". A disclosure you have to click, hover over, or scroll past a link to find does not count, and neither does a bare label like "affiliate link" that never mentions that we are paid. We have written ours to say the thing outright.
What the money does not buy
Commission rates differ between products, and if we wanted to we could steer you toward whichever pays best. We do not, and here is what stops us:
- Selection criteria are published and applied before commissions are considered. They are on the Editorial Policy page. If a product meets the criteria and pays nothing, it still goes in.
- We include products with no affiliate program at all when they are the right answer.
- No advertiser, brand, or affiliate program gets to see, review, or influence a page before it publishes. Nobody pays for placement here, and nothing on this site is sponsored content.
- We are not sent free products. If that ever changes, we will say so on the specific page and on this one, because receiving a free product is itself a material connection the FTC requires us to disclose.
What our findings are based on
This matters more here than on most affiliate sites, so it is worth being blunt: we do not test products by hand. CompatGrid is a research desk. Our findings come from manufacturer specifications, certification records, protocol documentation, and other published sources, all cited on the page. We never claim to have used, installed, or lived with a product, because we have not.

Advertising
Separately from affiliate links, this site carries display advertising, including ads served by Google. We do not choose the individual ads and they are not endorsements. What the ad system collects and how to turn personalisation off is covered in the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy.
